Description:
NeumesXML instance documents use the standard XML header, including the UTF-8 encoding declaration (which allows mixing of ASCII and Unicode characters). This is followed by a DOCTYPE declaration; it ensures that the NEUMES character mnemonics can be used in the chant transcription. An instance document can be schema-validated against the NeumesXML Schema, which decides whether the NeumesXML tags have been correctly used in the instance document, and whether the NEUMES transcription is grammatically correct.
Required: Yes
Example of Use:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="no"?>

<!DOCTYPE NeumesXML SYSTEM "http://purl.oclc.org/NEUMES/ref/NeumesXMLSchema.dtd">

<?xml-stylesheet href="http://purl.oclc.org/NEUMES/ref/NeumesXML.xsl" type="text/xsl"?>
